1930 AHRENS-FOX QUAD HOLIDAY FIRE ENGINE 'COCA COLA'
Scale 1:43

Годы выпуска : 1999

The Ahrens Fox-Quad fire engine was one of the most significant ever. With its 1000 gallons-per-minute pumping capacity, 100-gallon storage tank and booster hose, 200 feet of ground ladders and over 1000 feet of hose, it was the powerhouse fire companies relied upon to battle city blazes. It is traditional in North America for Santa to visit cities and towns just before Christmas, and to go riding through the streets in a fire engine. So, the Coca Cola Holiday fire engine was decorated in a hand painted porcelain and resin sculpture of Santa based on artwork created by the famed illustrator Haddon H. Sundblom. Santa held a bottle of Coke in one hand and there were several cases of Coke in the sculpture, in fact there were 71 bottles in the cases. A sack in front of Santa contained festive toys, whilst behind him was a pile of presents, wrapped in polka dots and stripes and decorated with ribbons. On the front of the engine was a Christmas wreath of holly and berries crowned with a red ribbon. The original flat bed of plastic hoses was removed to make way to the new load and noticeably, the chrome hand-rails had been lowered so that the fitting were now flush to the body. Some parts were left unpainted, notably the pump and the wheels, which were left in red plastic except for the silver detail. Wheels were fitted with spacers to reduce lateral movement. The only casting changes involved the amended baseplate text. 'Models of Yesteryear (r), Special Ltd. Edition' and 'YSFE01' were deleted to be replaced with a tampo printed 'Models of Yesteryear, 1930 Ahrens Fox Fire Engine YYM 35193' undee the left running-board. On the rear red plastic footplate the cast italic text of '1930 Ahrens Fox Fire Engine (c) 1994 Matchbox Collectible' had been deleted to be replaced with a cast '1:43 (c) 1994 (c) 1998 Mattel, Inc' all in capitals. Four baseplate screws had replaced the old style rivets and a neater, push-fit was given to the equipment attached to the running-boards. The YSFE07 was not packaged in the Q3 box. Instead it was issued in a polystyrene former marked 'YSFE07' within a white mailer marked 'YYM35193'. The Certificate accompanying each model was twice the normal size, and folded over with a large Coca Cola logo in red on the face.

Famed for their quality built vehicles of before the Second World War, the Rover Company decided to produce an all terrain vehicle after seeing how well the Jeep tackled the rigors of war. In 1948 the first Land Rover rolled off the production line at Solihull, England and was an immediate success. Initially it had a short wheelbase of 80 inches and was fitted with a 1595cc four cylinder engine. The Series 1 land Rover was produced between 1948 and 1958. Early photographs of the Fire & Rescue (Series V in the on-going fire fighting series) showed the Royal Navy Land Rover with a trailer carrying a rescue dingy. Due to extra costs, the trailer was omitted from the released model. However, Matchbox Collectibles were fully aware of the appeal for such a combination and decided to produce a model as a 'solo rescue vehicle'. With no casting changes, the rescue vehicle echoed all the highly detailed cast and sculptured equipment to that found on the R.N. Land Rover. All components had been re-coloured. One additional feature was the amber coloured roof mounted search-light lens. Apart from the change of series number, no alteration to the vehicles baseplate text was made. However, the trailer when compared to the YFE02 'Mattel' issue, had its cast test updated to include a '1998' copyright date and 'CHINA' was now cast in large capital italic letters, with 'YESTERYEAR YYM36400' tampo printed above. The trailer carried a host of eauipment inclusive of an inflatable dingy mounted on a tilting cradle. The YYM36400 Land Rover and Trailer was packaged in a polysterene former endorsed '36400' within a Q3 box labelled 'YYM36400' on one end flap. A gold banded corner stated 'Special Edition'. This model was not a Limited Edition.

HORSE DRAWN DELIVERY WAGON 'ANHEUSER-BUSCH'

In 1876 Ebehard Anheuser and Adolphos Busch began delivering their lagers and beers by horse-drawn wagons. Based in St.Louis, No., U.S.A., the Anheuser-Busch company took great pride in its wagons and by 1889 its large fleet of delivery wagons, could reach one mile in single file. Today, Anheuser-Busch is known internationally and is famous for its Budweiser and Michelob beers which are brewed using barley malt, hops, yeast and rice or grains. The Anheuser-Busch delivery wagon was not popular with collectors sue mainly to its price and lack of driver, even though the horse was in a walking pose. Because of licensing problem, Dutch collectors could not purchase the model by mail-order or from local Collectibles Centres! This delivery wagon was an adaptation of the YSH-1 1900 Gypsy Caravan in that the caravan body and the original figures were replaced by a cold cast sculpture of a wagon bosy containing a load of beer cases. Whilst the cases were very well crafted, the wagon bosy by comparison was rather crude. Labels decorated the sides and front. The horse, however, was more authentically coloured as a 'grey' with black nose, mane, tail and hooves and girdled with light brown traces, all of which were a satin finish compared to the brown and white 'gloss' horse hauking the caravan. The overall white plastic and metal chassis showed no casting changes except for the base text. This was deleted from the locker base, or jockey's box, and replaced with a black tampo printed version of 'Models of Yesteryear' model name and series number, a screw replaced the earlier rivet fixing. On the chassis baseplate the original copyright date, series number and 'Models of Yesteryear' had been delted to be replaced by '(c) 1993 MATTEL. INC'. Gloss black paint was applied to highlight the foot support bracket, springs, brake shaft, leaf springs and wheels. It was also used to poorly define the frame of the wagon. The issue price was just 2 pounds more than the Gypsy Caravan, but was not regarded as being such good value. All YYM36791 models were packaged in plastic formers within the Q5 maroon 'Collectors Limited Edition' box, and a white mailer carton. The YYM36791 was a limited edition of 7,500.

1926 FORD MODEL TT 'THE 1999 MATCHBOX COLLECTOR GUILD'
Scale 1:41

Годы выпуска : 1999
Количество модификаций : 2
Типы коробок :
Q2

This second 'Collectors Annual Edition' model in the Collectors Guild series was offered to collectors within the 10th issue of the Matchbox Collector newsletter, published in the Autumn of 1999. In many respects it was similar to the YVT03 Anheuser Busch Budweiser issue with much of the coachwork remaining in the same colours. At the same time, the majority of seats were bright red, however, some models appeared with a dark grey seat. The chassis still incorporated the screw hole bosses, which were a legacy of the model appearing in the Great Beers of the World series, but the holes were 'blind'. The appropriate baseplate legend, cast or printed, remained on the base of the van body. Two rivets retained the axle housings to the chassis, whilst the chassis was in turn attached to the body and cab by two screws. The model was a limited edition in that it was limited to the number of members in the Guild! Recipients also received a blue-print copy of the model. The YYM38030 was packaged in plastic formers within the Q2 commonality box.

1934 INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER C-SERIES 'WILSON'S GRAIN & FEED'

The 1934 International Harvester C-Series pick-up truck was the first Harvester to feature automobile-like styling. powered by a straight six-cylinder, 213 cubic inch engine, the C-series truck sported a V shaped aluminium radiator grille and slanting front windscreen. 75.000 C-1 Harvesters were produced, a landmark in International Harvester's truck production.
Unlike the recently released YTC06, the 'Wilson's Grain & Feed' pickup came with a realistic sculptured load of hay bails and small sacks of animal feed all supported on their own brown base. Because of this addition and the fact that the model was offered at the same retail price, some enhancements seen on the YTC06 were now deleted. These included the paintwork to the door mirror arm, the International logos on the nave plates and the embellishment to the radiator shell. However, the front bumper irons were made realistic with a coat of black paint and the gear and hand brake levers made noticeable in silver. No casting modifications were made and this included the baseplate legends. Apart from the series number being updated to the new Mattel system of coding, the same model details remained printed on the underside of the running boards.
The YYM38039 was packaged in plastic formers within a regular Q2 commonality box.
