1996 was the 40th anniversary of the Models of Yesteryear range and to celebrate the occasion, eight older models were chosen for an anniversary collection. Each model was accompanied with a brass medallion etehed with the heraldic anniversary emblem of the collection and the name of the car, togetherwith a 'Certificate of Authenticity' signed by Leslie Smith OBE, a co-founder of Lesney Products. The new series was called 'The Anniversary Collection Founder's Edition'. The 1996 Anniversary Model T model had extra detailing when compared to the issues of the Y1-2. This included super detailing to the side and headlight lenses, instruments, floor panels, coachlining and windscreen stauncheons and by doing so made far more attractive. Base cast text was amended and inverted with no copyright date or place of manufacture. It was noy until early 2000 that a variation was discovered regarding the cast model name, which could either be either 1911 FORD MODEL T or 1911 FORD MODEL. Knowing the scarcity and value of the textured black roof component, the Ford roof in Anniversary Collection had the words Limited Edition cast onto underside. New tampo printed number plates were applied to read 'FG-407'. Unfortunately these models were packaged in moulded polystyrene within a white mailing carton, which was a far cry from the 1984 YY60 Connoisseur Set presented in a hardwood display box! Brass plated metal wheels were secured on press-fit axles, the first time this wheel type had appeared on a Model of Yesteryear. The eight models had their side and headlight lenses detailed in silver with chassis base rivets painted to blend in with the surrounding paintwork. None of the models within this collection featured a cast or tampo printed copyright date, but all models were fitted with the small black plastic washers between the wheels and chassis to reduce lateral movement.

Between the years 1910 and 1914 Karl Benz produceed a wide variety of cars, from the small 2 litre models to a massive 22 litre 200hp model. During this period, whilst setting standards in racing competition, Benz was also creating luxurious touring cars for private use. Among these was the 1910 Benz, a four cylinder 4.85 litre model with limousine coachwork, capable of cruising at 60 miles per hour. This Matchbox model had been originally based on the actual machine in the Daimler-Benz museum at Stuttgart in Cermany. last appearing in 1984 as part of the Connoisseur Set, nothing changed regarding the casting except for the cast baseplate text being amended and inverted. This time the body was painted navy blue with extensive pale lemon coachlining and the chassis and roof were painted in gloss black. Fornt and rear floor panels had been painted silver as had the lenses of the side and head lights. One criticism was that the rear facing occasional seats should have been painted a similar colour to that of the plastic seats.
The YMS02 was packaged in moulded polysterene within a white mailing carton.

Introduced as the Opel 'Doctor's Car' this 2-seater Coupe was originally intended as reliable transport for country physicians, but soon found favour with other early motorists as well. Selling for 3.950 marks, the car featured high-pressure tyres on detachable steel rims and its four-cylinder 1029 cc engine enabled it to reach 55 kph.
No casting changes were made to the diecast body sectios since the Opel Coupe appeared in the 1984 YY60 Connoisseur Set. However, the baseplate text was amended and inverted. A smoother, textured finish was given to the painted black hood which carries the 'Limited Edition' legend. The hood strut supports had been coloured gold as was the end of the pivot pin. The brass plated bilkhead panel and radiator surround was of a high lustre finish and the extensive black coachlining enhanced the yellow bodywork. The rear number plate had 'LH 7562' tampo printed in white.

James Ward Packard was a perfectionist whose legacy for setting high standards in automobile manufacture endured for over 50 years. The six-cylinder, 82 bhp, Model Eighteen Landaulet sold for $4.500 - roughly equivalent to $500.000 in 2000! Of course, only a limited number were produced for the wealthy clientele who could arfford one.
The YMS04 Packard was finished in the pearlescent white, a colour first used on the YSC01 Scania Vabis bus; it was complimented by extensive gold coachlining and high lustre brass plated components. When compared to the last issue, which was in 1984 as part of the Connoisseur Set, a casting change to the bulkhead panel centre instrument saw the removal of a round, flat disc to leave a faint outline on the square mounting palte. The baseplate was screwed to the body via the original rivet positions and the text was amended and inverted. All four window frames were given a wood effect colouring and for additional enchancement the passenger floor panel was painted gold. The YMS04 was packaged in moulded plysterene within a white mailing carton.

In 1907, Gottlieb Daimler acqured the rights for a sleeve-valve engine which provided much quieter performance as well as increased power. It was the small, 1.7 litre sleeve-valve engine he used in the A12 which was only made in 1911. Other features that Daimler built into A12 were a worm driven rear axle and Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels, as standard equipment.
No casting changes were apparent when compared with the 1984 YY60 Connoisseur Set model, but the cleaning up of flash marks from the body rear panel and windscreen edges was quite noticeable. The raised detailing to the wing tops was also smoothed to allow the tampo printed coachlining process an uninterrupted application. The baseplate text was amended and remained in the same relative position as its predecessors.

The partnership of Benjamin Briscoe and Jonathan Maxwell produced one of the most impressive, value for money, cars in 1911. In fact it sold for $1.400 and was described by the Maxwell & Brisco Motor Company as 'the classiest, snappiest, most comfortable two passenger roadster built'.
The YMS06 was the last model in this series that also appeared in the YY60 Connouisseur Set. Again no casting changes were made with the exception of some of the cast text being deleted and amended. 'Limited Edition' was deleted from the underside of the hood which was produced from a flatter, less shiny black plastic. The brass plating was applied to the fuel tank, which on earlier issues was found on the plated Giftware made by Lesney in the 1960s. Extensive gold coachlining had been applied through the body sections, wing ribs and foot-plate. The interior floor panel had also been enhanced with gold paintwork.

This was probabley the world's first true sports car and it was renowned for its smooth running 4 litre side valve engine making it capable of a speed of 75 miles/hour. The name 'Prince Henry' reffered to one of the premier racing events in the world. The Prince Henry trials, first seen in 1908, were 500 mile events with speed trials and hill climbs.
Making its first appearance since 1984 the YMS07 Prince Henry Vauxhall was replendent in its authentic looking livery and classic coachlining. A return to the original 26 spoke wheels were finished in brass lustre plating to match the windscreen frame, battery cover and radiator. A return also for the small spare wheel retaining rivet, albeit with a polished steel finish. Gold enhancement paint was applied to the running boards and footwell panels. The fuel tank however, was not plated but finished in body colour. No casting changes were made except for the baseplate text being deleted and amended and the rear body panel casting marks removed.

Probably one of the finest American cars made during the 1910s was the New York built Simplex. This model 50 had an engine with a bore and stroke of 5.75 inches, a Holbrook tonneau bosy, four speed transmission and double chain drive. Its sumptuously appointed trim and handsome coachwork made it attractive to such wealthy clientele as the Rockefeller family.
the last model within the Anniversary series was to be the return of the Simplex which was last issued in 1988 from Macau. Although the livery of red and black was a repeat of the 1979 issue, there the similarity ended because there was now extensive gold paintwork applied to the running boards, step plates and foot-well panels. Gols coachlining decorated the wing tops and every body panel. The original narrow section wheels were fitted and finished in the same brass plating as the toolbox lid, bulkhead, radiator surround and spare wheel carrier, which in fact was the carrier normally associated with the Y12-2 Thomas Flyabout. This probably happened because the original Y9-2 moulds were too worn to produce a suitable casting for the bright brass plating process. The seats and grille were finished in a high gloss black paint finish whereas the hood was an authentic looking matt black. A few minor casting modifications involved the baseplate text to be amended and inverted, the rear body panel casting marks removed and the two base holes were part filled to become 'blind' holes.
