In 1995 Mattel Collectibles released a second Special Limited Edition of Austin 7 van Christmas tree ornaments. Boxed in a manner similar to the YCC01 1994 models, the box now had a green marble effect to the lid; on the back of which was a gold and black Matchbox Collectibles advertising device. The casting is similar to that of the YCC01 1994 van; however, the cast YCC01 and in 1:43 inscription have been replaced with a white tampo printed YCC02. The scale indication has been omitted. Limited to 9,492 sets worlwide, the YCC02 was aimed at, not only Yesteryear collectors, but also to collectors of Christmas 'goods', eg cards and Christmas decorations.

The well known commercial vehicle producer Scania, part of the Saab group, started with humble beginnings in 1890 when an English cycle manufacturer started business in Malmo, Sweden. In 1912, after merging with Vagnofabriks Aktiebologet i Sodevtualje, the company started making chain-driven vehicles under the name of Scania-Vabis Aktiebologet. By the early 1920's the first all weather proof post bus was produced for the Swedish Post Office. This authentic Post Bus model was the fourth of the 'Trolleys, Trams & Buses' series and the third change of livery within the Yesteryear range, but less the skis and half tracks of the Y16-4 and YSC01 issues. To maintain the wheel track with these components removed, black plastic spacers had been fitted behind the wheels. Interestingly, the rear spacers were stepped. The mail-shot leaflet picture showed the Post Bus with hub type 'A' wheels, but when released the model was only produced fitted with the later type 'B'. The leaflet also described the model as circe 1923 instead of 1922. The only casting change involved the roof where the advertising board's two mounting pins are pushed through two cast holes. Two relief holes could clearly be seen inside the roof section of the glazed moulding to allow these pins access. The cast 'YY35' under the roof and glazing panels were for manufacturing purposes and had no significance to other Yesteryear models. The base series number had been re-cast to read 'YET-04', but 'Matchbox Collectibles' was still omitted. No base screw holes were cast as all YET-04's were packaged within the plastic formers.

Released only a few weeks after appearing as the YY030A/SA 'Fisherman's Wharf', this contribution to the Coca-Cola series had an open bosy carrying a cold cast reproduction of the large sign advertising Stoneleigh Pharmacy. The original sign, with its authentic spencerian script, stood in front of the pharmacy building from where John S. Pemberton first retailed his Coca-Cola soft drink. Collectors wereimpressed by the model's over-all colourful paint finish and tampo printing, although there were reservations expressed at the authenticity of the gold plated effect wheels. The silver detail to the tool box lid was reduced so that only the recess was highlighted and additional gloss black paint was added to the tops of the cab steps. The chassis component was finished in satin dark grey with gloss black applied to detail, the leaf springs, differential case, drive chains, and side member pipes. Casting changes only affected the updating of the baseplate legend, which, with the removal of '(c) 1994 Mathcbox Collectibles', had '(c) 1985 Mattel Inc.' installed. The model was packaged in plastic formers within the commonality box.

This model of a 1931 Morris Courier Van was thought by 'Classic Toys' magazine to be an ideal publicity model. The van bosy is typical of the stream lined style of commercial coachbuilding of the thirties and compliments the Art Deco design applied to the body sides. The livery was actually inspired by an illustration of a paint manufacturer's delivery van in a similar colour scheme. The YPP02/SA model is comparable to the YGB18 'Cascade' and YPP02 'The Times', but production problems made the quality of the majority of the YPP02/SA somewhat questionable. Models had chips, bent cabs, poorly fitting roofs, re-touched paintwork and in at least one case, the axles the wrong way round, i.e. double wheels at the front! Matchbox Collectibles were swift to react and withdrew over 50% of the models, with a promise to destroy them as soon as possible. This resulted in the model becoming very scarce, as the original limit quantity was only 3,000. No casting changes were made for this issue, but it was noted that the rear van base ejection disc could either be filled, partially filled or open. The vanside body ridge was not as proud as that found on the YGB18 after which it was smoothed down for the YPP02, when a coachline was applied. Wheels, for the first time on the Morris Courier, had a chrome plated finish. The underside of the van roof was left un-painted. The YPP02/SA was packaged in plastic formers within a blue and yellow picture box (E1 type) which was designated 'Old Y-31 Model'.

The Los Angeles Times was founded in 1881 and is still the number one choice of newspaper in Clifornia, USA. Boasting several Pulitzer prize winning reporters, it held the position of being the No. 1 metropolitan daily newspaper in 1992.
Collectors, especially diecast purists, were delighted that the new truck bosy and tarpaulin cover was all metal. Although the 'AA' truck had been issued three times before in the range, this was the first time it had been fitted with a new truck body. The detail of the high-sided bosy was particularly fine, even if the component representing the tarpaulin cover looked ungainly. Securing ropes were part of the truck body detailing.
In 1996, re-issues had wheels fitted with Type B hubs.

Pravda (meaning the truth) was established in 1912 as an official voice of the Communist Party in Russia. Collectors were bemused by the choice of an American truck to bear the Pravda livery! No casting alterations were evident since the Mack appeared as YGB09 in the livery of Moosehead Beers, except that the series number was no longer cast, but tampo printed on the baseplate. This was the first time that the Mack had been produced with solid tyres on spoked wheels since 1988 as Y30-1 Kiwi. The wheel hub centres had been extended to blank off the axle holes and it was also the first time a bronze coloured plastic had been used for the wheels.
So although the Pravda did not exactly make the front page headlines, a couple of firsts, and if one adds the use of Cyryllic letters, a third gives it a certain claim to fame!

The YSH-2 Special Edition model was released in December 1993. This was the second time that a horse-drawn bus had been included in the range: the first being the much smaller and less sophisticated Y12-1 1899 London Bus released in 1959.
The YSH-2 model was typical of many Omnibus vehicles seen in British cities in the 19th Century and features authentic advertising posters of the time. A mixture of coloured and clear labels were used. Of the main components, the upper compartment sides, the rear stairs and the advertising hoarding boards were made from plastic. The animation of the horses and the inclusion of the crew and passengers really brought the model to life. No variations have been recorded.
The production run was 20.000 models worldwide.

Originally designed for military use, the Power Wagon WDX was adapted by Dodge and put on sale to the public in 1946. Powered by a 230 cubic inch six-cylinder engine through a 4-wheel drive transmission, the truck could easily carry a 3000 pound load. The YTC02 Dodge Power Wagon WDX was a heavy casting. It readily gave the impression of a powerful truck suitable for industrial, agricultural and military use shown by its rugged appearance and the addition of a winch. Finished in dark green and black, the model featured an open bosy with a separately cast decking. Collectors appreciated the individually moulded and applied parts, such as headlamps with clear lenses, door mirrors, rear sidelights, towing eye and radiator cap. However, the chrome enhancement of the two top hung windscreen wipers, door handles, fuel filler cap and the bright tailboard pins were thought not to be in keeping. A spare wheel was fixed to the right hand truck body with no sign of a rivet fixing. A clear Perspex section was used to glaze the windscreen and rear cab window; the door windows were left open. The exhaust system, engine sump, fuel tank, transfer box and transmission were provided as separate plastic castings. The gearbox being diecast as part of the chassis and suspension component. The baseplate featured two spun rivets and two screws to secure the chassis, baseplate and body components. All cast and printed baseplate text was applied to the base of the running boards. The YTC02-M was packaged in plastic formers within the Q2 commonality box.

The Citroen Company had a policy of making the type 'H' van according to each individual customers requirements. Fully aware of this, Matchbox Collectibles decided to make minor alterations to the tooling for the van bodies for each of the six different liveries. These subtle changes are known as 'marketing variations'; the object being to generate more interest, especially with collectors who like variations. In their promotional literature for the Taste of France series, Matchbox Collectibles stated that this series was 'unique' in that 'only six vans had been commisioned to display the unique design... in this mini series. Production quantities will remain the same for each model in this limited series and when the last model runs off the assembly line the dies (tooling) will be destriyed'. Collectors soon realised the implications of this statement i.e. the possibility of cross-over casting variations between liveries on a model which might never again appear as a Model of Yesteryear. Two small pips had been cast onto the left hand lower panel to represent button-catches on the spare wheel compartment panel: also unaltered bodies appeared in 'Martell' colours. The cast baseplate legend 'YTF' was altered to indicate the progressive numbering for each livery. The total quantity produced was 25.000. In December 1994 unsold stock was sold with YTF05 as YTF-S01 on a brown display plinth.

Already known for their petrol driven light commercial and passenger vehicles, the firm of Crossley Motors began producing military tenders in 1912. These proved to be a huge asset during the First World War and brought the company considerable fame. Due to its robust and versatile goods carrying capabilities, the 20-25 horse power Crossley was converted for civilian use after the war. Last issued in 1988 as Y13-3 in the livery of 'Kohle & Koks', collectors eagerly awaited this revival issue. However they were disappointed with the garish livery and the precarious cold cast sculpture of potted plants commonly referred to by collectors as 'smartie' plants; smartries being coloured, chocolate, button sweets. This, and the huge price increase probably led to te model being a poor seller and within a few months, Mathcbox Collectibles offered the YY013/SA to the Hallmark chain of stores in North America. Apart from the obvious colour changes to the body and plastic components, no new changes had been made to the body casting. The chassis however bore a similarity to the 1910 Renault AG van which featured screw holes when issued as YGB07. The Crossley and the Renault share the same chassis tooling, the only difference for either model was the rectangular 'cut-out' behind the rear axle. For the Renault, this is achieved by inserting a blanking plate in the die; the plate is simply removed for Crossley versions. With the Sherwood Florist model most of the cast text had been removed to leave just the 'Matchbox' legend and 'Models of Yesteryear' beneath the running boards. The series number and model description was printed in large italics on the baseplate. Three screws, replacing the earlier spun rivets, held the body components together. Type B pushfit wheels where now the norm and these also included the small black spacers used to reduce lateral movement of the axle. All YY013/SA models were packaged in plastic formers within the Q5 maroon Collectors Limited Edition box. The production limit was 9,500.

With finance provided by Damien Mateu, the Hispano Suiza Company was registered in 1904, and production started with lorries as well as passenger cars. Later its aero-engines powered large numbers of Allied aircraft in both world wars. Literally meaning 'Spanish-Swiss' the Hispano-Suiza emanated from Barcelona, Spain, designed by the Swiss, Marc Birkigt. In 1914 the company opened a french factory at Levallois-Perret, France, followed by an even larger production facility at Bois-Colombes, Paris, in 1914. After World War I Birkigt commissioned a sculpture of the stork that had adorned the fuselage of French air ace Ceorges Guynemer's SPAD war plane and used it as the mascot for the new Hispano-Suiza H6 launched at the Paris Salon in 1919. In 1931 Hispano-Suiza introduced their 9,425cc Type 68, pushrod, V12 and in 1934 saw the Type 68bis which had an increase in stroke, bringing the swept vloume to 11,310cc producing 250bhp. At that time the car sold for 3,750 pounds in England. Type 68 production in France continued up to 1939 when Hispano-Suiza built aero engines for Worls War II. After the war the Bois-Colombes and Barcelona factories were sold, the later producing commercial vehicles and also the short lived Pegaso luxury sporting cars of Wilfredo Ricart. One of the oldest Models of Yesteryear had entered its 23rd year with this Exclusive Special Edition. Presented in a stunning olive green and dark cream, it was completed contrast to the previous issue, in dark blue, of 1995. Collectors were generally appreciative with the extra white enhanced detailing given to the side and headlight lenses, but were disappointed that the light gold and black front registration plate was not repeated at the rear. The seat and hood were painted in a matt finish to match the body side panels with the plated parts in a brassy gold instead of the previous gold effect. Instruments were picked out in black on the dashboard and the steering wheel was black with gold spokes. Casting changes involved the deletion of 'Made in China', 'Matchbox Int'l. Ltd' and the copyright date only to be replaced by the tampo printed model number 'YY017A/SA-M'. The original screw fixing hole had been part filled (blind) and the body secured to the base by two chrome screws. Press fitted wheels were of the new standard capped hub type with the small black spacing washers fitted to reduce lateral movement. This was particularly noticeable when compared to the earlier issues. The YY017A/SA was issued in a World-wide Edition Limit of 9,500 and was packaged in plastic formers within the maroon Exclusive box and white mailer carton.

Within San Franciso lies an area that is renowned for its beauty and seafood, Fisherman's Wharf is the place where the city's fishermen dock their boats. Thousands of tons of fish are caught, landed and marketed from the wharf. And street vendors cook and sell a variety of fresh shellfish on the sidewalk. The spirit of the wharf was captured on this replica and was generally viewed as the most attractive Mack truck of the many issues since being introduced to the range in 1985. Consequently it sold very well. It was first seen as a pre-production at the Hershey Toy Show in 1998, and visitors singled it out as the most desirable forthcoming release. It compared favourably with the YGB24 'Tsingtao Beer' with the replacement drop sided body. (Compare with Y30 'Consolidated' body). The livery of royal blue and light brown was a good combination and the cold cast sculpture was most realistic despite the unlikeliness of the inclusion of fishing nets in a delivery to a restaurant! Enhanced chassis detailing continued to the front and rear springs, chassis revets, side member pipes and drive chains, with plated parts and trim finished in chrome and silver. Shrome wheels were notably more secure with the use of wheel spacers. The cast 'Models of Yesteryear', (r) mark and model description was deleted from the baseplate in favour of a tampo printed version followed by the series number, whilst Made in China remained cast behind the rear axle. Three screws retained the chassis component to the body replacing the old spun rivets. All YY030A/SB models were packaged in plastic formers within the Q5 maroon Collectors Limited Edition box. World wide edition was 9,500.

In 1997, Matchbox Collectibles mailed out Exclusive Collectors Limited Editions brochures accompanied by a newsletter called the Matchbox Collector. To consolidate their mailing list and to add to it, this model was one of the benefits when a subscription of 25.00 pounds was taken to the Matchbox Collectors Guild. The other benefits were a blue-print copy of the model and a 'phone-card' style membership card. This model was only limited by the number of applicants joining the guild! The model showed no body casting changes since its release as the YY030A/SA Mack truck, but did have the windscreen frame and cab doors fitted. The chassis however, proved to be of interest when compared to other recently released models namely the YY030A/SB Fisherman's Wharf and the YPC03 Stoneliegh Pharmacy. The copyright date and the Matchbox Collectibles legend had been deleted to be replaced with a 'shallow' cast copyright date of '(c) 1994' which had been repositioned to accommodate the shorter cast 'MATTEL INC'. The copyright date was changed and improved on the YPC03. The legend printed model description and series number remained in the same format. The 'Made in China' legend was also unchanged. The livery of the Guild model was an overall gloss royal blue, but the cab, bonnet and wing areas appeared with a satin finish. The van body, depicting an early style of Matchbox packaging, had facing panels masked sprayed in the corporate yellow displaying the company's graphics. An unpainted dark purple roof panel represented the sticker panel of a Matchbox. painted detail on the chassis was restrited to the drive chains. Although the model was exclusively for members of the Matchbox Collector's Guild it was not issued as a Matchbox Exclusive and therefore was only packaged in plastic formers within the Q2 commonality box.
